What To Do When You're Not Horse Showing

Most equestrians are very objective orientated and endeavor to find true success at horse shows. The idea of our game drives us to be serious. We train hard at home to ideally make it around our courses or expert our tests and grab a blue lace. We assault the ring all show season long, pursue focuses, and attempt to arrive at the top as Fall rolls around. Regardless of whether you succeed everybody merits a break after show season where you can simply calmly inhale and have a good time! Horse showing isn't the end all be all with regards to ponies, there are so many other fun exercises you can participate in that will give both you and your pony a genuinely necessary break from the show ring yet have an awesome time.

I enjoy a good horse show now and then, but there’s a reason I refer to myself as the hot mess express… horse shows bring out the basket case in me and I end up spending most of the weekend trying to keep my lunch down. My nerves just get the best of me. So over the years, I’ve discovered a ton of fun activities to partake in with your horse that don't even involve the show ring.

1. Hunter Paces or Trail Rides
   
   

My top decision to have a great time with my pony is to go on one of our nearby tracker paces! In the event that you've never been on one, you want to snatch two or three companions and thoroughly search in to check whether any are being placed on in your space. A tracker pace is a blend between a fox chase and a path ride. A course is set (somewhere in the range of 8 to 12 miles) and groups attempt to match the ideal time (that nobody knows quite a bit early) while investigating the nearby open country. They're low pressure and deal an incredible choice to get making the rounds while having a ton of fun with your companions.

And it adds some variety from your normal lessons since you’ll get instruction from someone other than your normal trainer. Find a trainer you look up to and see if they’re offering any clinics and get yourself signed up!

4. Teaching Tricks

There was one winter when No joke, essentially all I did with Mira was show her the way in which to do stunts (we were having a difficult time in our relationship and required some time away from riding) and it was really a particularly fun excursion. Presently Mira won't be an expert stunt horse at any point in the near future, yet she knows how to grin, bow, embrace, and that's only the tip of the iceberg! Also, presently she gets a kick out of the chance to flaunt to all her new companions (I'm dead serious… this horse is continually grinning like a nitwit attempting to persuade everybody to give her treats). 5. Go Out Schooling

Clyde is a 15.2h 6yo Warmblood cross gelding. Here is a super sweet and flashy prospect. In the barn this guy is so super sweet. He is one you don't even need to tie to do absolutely anything with. He will stand all day long for anything. Now, this guy is very flashy and shows so much talent, however he hasn't done a whole lot yet. In the ring he has three nice gaits, gets both leads, changes are well started and we were able to catch a few and he is a push ride with a good whoa. He will go over cross rails at a trot and canter. He still needs miles and finishing. He is one that would make a very very nice hunter, eq or jumper, dressage too. Or take him in the hunt field and finish him that way. Out of the ring he is brave and will go anywhere. He shows great potential to do hunter paces, hill topping or fox hunts. Shamrock is a 16.2h 13yo Argentinian Warmblood gelding. This guy is so so much fun to ride. In the ring he is a finished Eq and Jumper. Bear is a 15.3h 11yo 1/4 Hanovarian, 1/4 TB, 1/2 QH gelding. In the barn this guy is as sweet as they come. He cross ties, straight ties and ground ties like a pro.
